Yes, you can customise the variant selector style to adapt to your store look in just a few clicks.

Simply go to the Visual preferences section, and then click on Variant selector advanced options to show all the different options you can configure, such as background color, border styles and font styles:

If you want a transparent background color, click on the None option:
